  Would a Christian converting to Catholicism be considered as having forsaken the faith that saves? Have they been seduced away from the true Gospel to a false Gospel? And would this lead to apostasy?

  If they truly abandon salvation by grace through faith and instead embrace a salvation dependent on works of merit, then yes. But simply being convinced that the Catholic Church is the historic Christian Church and has apostolic authority and/or attending a Catholic church may not rise to that level. God must judge the heart. So I guess the best answer is that it depends on the heart and exactly what they are giving up and renouncing when they convert.
