BBI II-B #2 The “Begetting” of Wisdom

BBI II-B #2 The “Begetting” of Wisdom

December 18, 2023 Timothy Comments 2 comments

Proverbs begins by telling the reader to decipher a riddle, the “hidden Wisdom” concealed by God behind what at first appears to be just a “personification” of one of God’s attributes. Yahweh has always possessed his own “wisdom,” yet this at the “beginning” of creation week, this “hidden Wisdom” was “acquired,” “founded,” and “begotten” by Yahweh as “the Beginning” of His works. “Wisdom” then claims to have been God’s protege and agent in the creation of all things, and that God “delighted” in “Wisdom,” and that “Wisdom” interacted with mankind. Finally, Solomon provides the solution to the riddle by identifying “Wisdom” God’s “Son.”

I checked you. 1st I downloaded the Douay-Rheims and looked at John 8:25. You are correct, then I downloaded a Greek-English New Testament, and again you are correct. I am completely amazed! Why did our translators translate it correctly?

Because they are Trinitarians. If they allow the very clear connection between Jesus’ statement and “Wisdom” of Prov. 8, then their Jesus cannot be “co-eternal” with the Father as Trinitarianism requires. In Prov. 8:22, “Wisdom” is “acquired” by God, “poured out” of God (v. 23), “begotten” of God (v. 24,25). All of these terms point to an ORIGIN out of God.
