      Hosea 5:14 says,”…I, even I, will tear them and go away…” The going away seems to occur after the tearing, so how could the tearing be referring to the destruction of the temple in 70 AD if the going away is His ascension? Also, in chapter 6:1-2, it seems to say that they will be healed/restored two days after being torn. Tim, I know that you believe the 70 weeks begins 2 days or 2000 years after His ascension, and I know that the biblical chronology lines up with that, but this passage is unclear to me. I certainly don’t believe the tribulation won’t start until 2070, but how would you explain this passage to someone?

      I meant to say “70th week”, not “70 weeks”.

      Kim,

      First, in the clause “I will tear [them]” the pronoun “them” was added by the translators, it does not appear in either the Hebrew or the LXX. It simply says “I will tear,” while the LXX has “I will seize” (or carry off, as a lion carries away his prey). In other words, it does not say God will tear THEM. In Matthew 21:43 Jesus said: “Therefore I say to you, the kingdom of God will be taken from you and given to a nation bearing the fruits of it.” So it very well could refer to the Kingdom being torn from unbelieving Israel of which the tearing of the Temple veil was a clear symbol.

      Hi Kim,

      My understanding as learned from Tim is this: The counting begins at Jesus ascension (AD30) not at the destruction of the Temple [if AD70].

      If Jesus ascension is AD30, then 2 days (2 Millennia) after that time would be 2030 on our calendar. However, the Jewish New Year (Rosh Hashanah) begins a few months before our Gregorian calendar around September 2029.

      “After” 2 days (2 Millennia, counting from Jesus ascension) he will revive us;

      “on the ‘Third Day’ (The beginning of the 3rd Millennia counting from Jesus ascension, and the 7th Millennia since creation) he will restore us’.

      Potentially September 2029 begins Daniel’s 70th week, the last week (7 years) of the tribulation before Jesus returns in 2036 on Yom Kippur.
