It seems to me that there is a contradiction in the notes for John’s gospel in the LGV-version:

      * Verse 5:18 says that Jesus was ”making Himself equal with God” which is commented in note 132: ”This statement indicates EQUALITY IN NATURE, being of the same kind (something stated plainly in John 1:1).”

      * Verse 1:1 reads ”Logos was God” which is commented in note 5: ”Logos was what the word “God” defines, a Person holding “Sovereignty,” a concrete, personal noun. IT CANNOT MEAN… THAT HE POSSESSED A ”DIVINE NATURE”… since these are abstract, non-personal nouns.”

      What am I missing?

      Anders,

Yes, you are correct, that was a contradiction. The note 132 was an older version. I had previously corrected the note for John 1:1 after exploring the comments regarding Jn. 1:1c of Wallace in “Greek Grammar Beyond the Basics”. But I somehow missed correcting the note for John 5:18. I have corrected it. Thanks for catching that.

      Tim
