Tim,
When Jesus in Matt 10 sent out His twelve apostles to preach, He said (v.23): ”You will not have gone through the cities of Israel before the Son of Man comes.” Did He mean Jerusalem’s destruction in AD 70 or His return?
* If Jesus meant Jerusalem’s destruction, why did He speak about ”the Son of man comes”?
* If Jesus meant His return, why did He say they would not have gone ”through the cities of Israel” before the event?
I find both interpretations hard to reconcile with the rest of the Bible. Maybe there is a third possibility?

Sorry, I missed this. I don’t get notifications when someone posts on the forum, and I have been busy and haven’t checked for a while.
If you compare the following from Luke’s account I think the answer to your question will be apparent.
Luke 10:1 After these things the Lord appointed seventy others also, and sent them two by two before His face into every city and place where He Himself was about to go.
No doubt the same was true when He sent out the 12. That is, He was sending them ahead to preach in the towns and villages where He was planning to go personally behind them. So when He said: “You will not have gone through the cities of Israel before the Son of Man comes,” He meant that they would not finish their assignment before Jesus would catch up to them. It does not refer either to AD 70 or the 2nd coming, IMO.
So simple. Why didn’t I think of that myself…
